Lips photography critique

for Hakan Nyman

Hi!

I´m quite new to shoot in a studio, and with models. I have mostly been using two or three flashes. One or two on the model and one at the background. However, this is an idea I got from a CD-cover. I thought it was quite difficult to set up the light to avoid reflexes. I wonder if you can given me some critique on this photo? And how to set a good portrait light with only one flash?

“lips”
5D mkII, 135mm@f2.0, 1/125s, ISO100, Two flashes, one on each side slightly behind the wet glass.

Hakan

thank you for your submission. I am happy to critique your photos as I find it different and interesting

Content: 6/10
an interesting a different approach for the content. I love the fact the image stands out and it is not just another portrait, but i am disturbed by the fact you call this image “lips” as the picture does not give me the feeling that is really the intent here. The lips are way too small in the image to constitute the main subject as there much more going on here. I thing you missed the subject. If you woudl have called this “portrait” than the content TRS would be 8.5 out of 10
Composition: 7/10
composition is consistent with the intent. Central and symmetry make sense, it is the hierarchy of elements a bit wrong as per above.
Image Quality: 9/10
perfect execution, I love the idea of the water drops screen
TRS Score:  7.3 out of 10
you could have made more by just either having this a portrait, or made the lips bigger in the image. I can see you are already a great skilled photographer
